The BRIT Awards 2016

Another year, another set of annual awards, and second set of music awards comes from the UK! The annual BRIT Awards were hosted by national treasures that are Ant & Dec on the 24th of February, along with performances from Rihanna, Justin Bieber & Adele.

There’s always something unexpected happening at the BRITS, like when Madonna got literally dragged on to her back, when Peter Kay called Oasis front man Noel Gallagher a ‘knobhead’, when Sharon Osbourne was absolutely hammered on stage, and when Jarvis Cocker decided to ‘ponse’ on the stage around during a Michael Jackson performance, and with Rihanna and Drake getting comfy on stage, and Adele having a rather colourful speech, live on television, 2016 wasn’t any different.

Adele walked away with 4 awards this year including Global Success and of course, the Icon Award went to the legendary David Bowie, who was tributed by a firm favourite of his, Lorde.

Here are those who I believe would have, and should have won, along with who actually did win.

NOTE: These are the full list of nominees for 2016′s BRIT Awards, as chosen by The Academy. The winners were also voted for by The Academy other than 2 specific awards, in which then the winner is voted by the public. All predictions are specifically down to opinion and whoever won on the night, if predicted correctly, is down to simple coincidence. I did not know who would have won in any of the categories this year. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.

*The categories as voted for by the public. On the night, the public were able to vote for who they thought deserved the award via Twitter which closed the night of the ceremony. Online voting via The BRITs website closed a few days prior. Acts with their names crossed out were eliminated in the first few rounds of the voting process.

**The Critics Choice Awards is always the first award for the winner to be announced. The awards is for new and upcoming artists who are expected to do sincerely well in years to come. Such winners in the past have included the likes of Sam Smith, Jessie J, and Adele. Congratulations to Jack Garratt for winning the award.

***The Global Success award is awarded to an artist who has achieved incredible milestones during their career and is chosen by the BRIT Academy. Congratulations to Adele for winning the award.

****The Icon Award is awarded to the most influential of artists who have achieved incredible milestones in their career, and have made an impact on the music industry as we know today. It is one of the highest accolades at the BRITs, and upon winning the award, the recipient normally recieves a special tribute of some sort. Congratulations David Bowie. You truly were an icon.
