JLo is back! And she’s back with brand new single ‘Ain’t Your Mama,’ which was co-written by Meghan Trainor!
We last saw the latin dance queen back in 2014 with her eighth studio album ‘A.K.A’ and now ‘love?rs’ can rejoice as she is back to share some brand new material off her upcoming ninth studio album, which is yet to be titled.
The song will be debuted officially by Jenny later on today, on the finale of American Idol. Other writers include Lunchmoney Lewis and Henry Walter.
Here is what I made of new JLo…
So of course, in true Jennifer Lopez style, it’s a summer, latin, dance bop. I say bop, because it doesn’t come with a full punch in the face like ‘On The Floor’ did back in 2011, so it doesn’t gain ‘banger’ status, however, it is still sincerely very good. It’s one of those songs that will end up having you singing it due to it being stuck in your head, for being so catchy.
I think it has great potential for a lot of radio play, and a very reasonable place within the top 10 of the charts with the right promotion, but in terms of being a number 1, or coming close to doing an ‘On The Floor,’ I just can’t see it.
The song has been released at a reasonable time too. What with what the song sounds like, I can see it being played at the beach during the summer time, and what with summer being right around the corner, it has plenty of time to get it’s name and sound out there, and the American Idol finale is a perfect start.
I think when JLo released ‘A.K.A’, it was very questionable as to whether her career was dwindling, but I don’t think she’s ready to go just yet. This album could be a bounce-back for Jennifer, and I think it could also nail her name into the legends wall just a little bit more. Of course, it is obvious that she easily will go down as a legend in her own right, but this album, if it follows with the lead single, could do very well, and honour her that name a little more.
Only time will tell on how well it does, but it certainly has the potential.
