Calvin Harris – Slide (feat. Frank Ocean & Migos)

calvin-harris-slide-2017-2480x2480

Calvin Harris has just dropped his third single off his upcoming album which is yet to be titled and due out later this year, and it features American dream, Frank Ocean and Hip-Hop/Rap trio Migos. Now if you don’t know who Frank Ocean is, you should, and if you don’t know who Migos are, then you shouldn’t, other than they had (somehow) a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Bad and Boujee’ (which by the way should have the record for the worst song to reach the #1 spot but anyway) and then someone managed to create a petition asking them to replace them with Lady Gaga for this year’s Superbowl Halftime Show. WHY?

Anyway, so this single is titled ‘Slide’ and was initially teased on Calvin’s Snapchat a few months ago. Now he’s dropped the whole thing and before doing so, gave us a little insight about his upcoming album by tweeting the following:

I feel like it’s missing from the world. And it was missing from my life. So I created it !!!!

So excited to share this with you !!! !! Can u tell

In 2017 I’m making music to make your soul happy !!!!

Ill post liner notes for all my songs in 2017 detailing each instrument played so u can recreate my songs live in the comfort of ur own home

Not feel good music. Feel INCREDIBLE music

All my songs in 2017 have been sonically designed to make you feel fucking incredible

So yeah, safe to say Calvin’s feeling, I quote, “fucking incredible” about this year.

Who will we see on his upcoming album?

As always, I listened to ‘Slide’ and here’s what I made of it.

Hmm… Not quite sure where to start. In all honesty, when Calvin said about “feeling incredible”, I don’t think he was talking about this song.

It’s just noise. I’m not quite sure what’s going on, in terms of arrangement and it just gets a little boring and repetitive as you delve closer to the end of the song. It’s enjoyable on Frank’s parts, but as soon as you get to Migos’ part it just sort of goes downhill from there.

There’s no real drop, or nothing to show that this is a Calvin Harris track other than his name on the title of the song. This is completely upon first listen, and I am hoping my views change the more I hear it on radio’s and stuff, as I had high expectations for this song. Perhaps that’s it. My high expectations were maybe a little too high. I don’t know.

As I say, I don’t think Calvin was talking about this single when he said it’s going to make you feel ‘incredible’ because it really didn’t. Maybe next time, Calvin.

Rate /10: 6

Is it worth buying? No

#1? No

  1. I’d say it give it another listen. I agree with you about the Migos part being less than stellar (not a fan of them in general) but the arrangement of the song and the sounds used are so lush and it has a really nice summer groove. Are you a fan of Calvin’s other music?

    1. Of course. I have found since upon initial listen, I have grown to like the song ever so slightly. I am a Calvin Harris fan, so listening to this compared to other hits he’s put out and produced over the last decade or so seems a little too different.

As I say, my expectations of this song maybe were a little too high, but I also did say it may take a few listens to get used to it.

      Thankyou for your feedback. 🙂
