Calvin Harris edges closer to a new album with yet another release, and this time it features American artists, rapper and songwriter, Young Thug, multi talented singer/songwriter and producer, Pharrell, and superstar Ariana Grande.
This single comes after the release of ‘Slide’ alongside Frank Ocean and Migos, and is showing a more diverse range of artists to be featured, and of which Calvin is releasing videos of how he made the tracks, and the credits to the tracks themselves via his Twitter. It’s unclear whether this is an official single of the upcoming album, but hey, we’re here for it.
I’m kind of getting a little confused as to what direction Calvin is going in terms of his sound. When releasing ‘This Is What You Came For,’ and ‘My Way,’ it was Calvin at his best. This new sound isn’t really quite so ear catching on the first listen. I remember when ‘Slide’ was released, and I absolutely hated it because Migos just over dominated the song. They would have been good for a little hook, and I grew to like it only because of Frank’s bits, and it’s exactly the same as this.
This song sounds like Bruno Mars should have been on it, and Young Thug’s bits you just tend to zone out of. The only bits I actually enjoyed are those of Pharrell and Ariana’s verses. Despite that little negative, as a whole, this songs actually pretty enjoyable. There’s somewhat a likability to this song, and I’m not quite sure what it is. This one has more of a feel good factor to upon initial listening compared to what ‘Slide’ did.
I don’t quite get what’s going on with Calvin at the moment, and judging by these new tracks and the styles of their single covers, I’m not sure if Calvin’s going to pull a Rihanna over us and discontinue ‘This Is What You Came For,’ and ‘My Way,’ and not give them an album. I guess we shall see.
