Pop star Katy Perry has just released her brand new single featuring hip-hop trio Migos titled ‘Bon Appétit,’ as what’s believed to be the official second single from her 4th studio album which name and dates of release of the album are yet to be confirmed.
It follows after the first official single ‘Chained to the Rhythm,’ which featured Jamaican artist Skip Marley. After it’s pretty decent success worldwide, Katy pushes on with what she calls this era “purposeful pop.”
Well… Where do we start?
It’s a little confusing because, I can’t help but want to jam to it, however, I’m not really sure where it’s going in terms of production. Even though there’s a really catchy beat, and again, makes you want to jump in the car with the roof down cruising through Miami or something, you kind of expect like a dance drop in the middle of it somewhere, at least once, and you don’t get it, so almost comes across a little misleading.
Do I think Migos was a great addition to the song? Not in the slightest. They offer nothing but auto tuned crap. Their verse was just unnecessary, and given their ‘hip-hop’ back ground, and being homophobic, Katy Perry and this whole song in general was the last thing you’d think they’d do in terms of collaboration, and in some sense, it comes across a little bit desperate from both sides?
Other than the misleading of the random dance drop, and the awfulness that is Migos, there’s something about this song that’s actually quite enticing. It’s quite a groovy little summer number, and despite it being a little undercooked upon first listen, I think the more it gets played, the more people will start to hear it from a different view. It’s definitely a grower. Just, no one ordered the side of Migos.
