Mr. DJ of the world, Calvin Harris has just put out yet another single off his upcoming album titled ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1′, and it’s titled ‘Rollin’ and features American artists Future & Khalid. The album also includes the likes of Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg to name a few. No sign of the Rihanna or Disciples tracks, as well as ‘My Way’ which Calvin released solo.
It’s unsure of how many volumes of ‘Funk Wav Bounces’ we will get, and whether ‘This Is What You Came For,’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ and ‘My Way’ on any future volumes, but you can be sure to be getting ‘Slide,’ and ‘Heatstroke.’
I don’t want to say it, but I’m getting bored of this mellow Calvin Harris songs now. They all sound identical, and there’s no real drop. It’s typical to have a rapper, rap about 90% of the song, have the odd chorus over the same beat, and it’s just boring. It was OK the first time when he released Slide with Frank and Migos, then was just acceptable when he released Heatstroke, but this is just starting to get a little too predicatble and boring now. Calvin isn’t know for making songs that don’t convey. I think sales and streams are starting to reflect on that, and even though Calvin is completely about the artistry and the music rather than opposed to sales and figures, which is amazing, and that’s completely respectable of Calvin, it just doesn’t make me feel good or want to listen to it multiple times.
Could this be the end of Calvin Harris? No. Definitely not. Calvin is extremely clever and knows 100% if he wanted to make a bop, he would deliver. Perhaps it’s just where he is in his life at this moment in time. and he may return to be the DJ the world knows him as. If he continues to make music like this through the rest of his career though, I can’t see him having the same success and having the longevity that he has been having.
