Calvin Harris – Nuh Ready, Nuh Ready (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR)

New music from Scottish superstar DJ Calvin Harris now and this time it features Canadian singer/songwriter PARTYNEXTDOOR. The song is titled ‘Nuh Ready, Nuh Ready’ which can only be presumed as ‘not ready, not ready’ in actual English. Whilst the song wasn’t apart of ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1′ someone took around 7 seconds to tweet Calvin asking if this was from a possible part 2, and well, it isn’t. Calvin said that this is from a completely different project altogether so there’s a fair amount of curiosity as to what the next album is going to sound like.

With ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1′ at least every song actually went with the title of the album, they were all “funk wave bounces”. This song takes a complete different turn altogether. This is heavily Jamaican influenced, with some heavy house synths and bass in there too. Think Robyn S’ ‘Show Me Love,’ with a song from Vybz Cartel, or Mr. Eazi.

If I’m completely honest, I can’t decided whether I like it or not. It doesn’t seem to go anywhere, and the song is very short lived as it appears to be only about 30 seconds long, despite actually being over 3 minutes. I also can’t seem to get my head around the fact that this is Calvin Harris. There is no “lift off” to the song, however there are elements in there that if you were in the club, it would have you dancing to it so it’s hard to say.

It’s difficult to really understand where Calvin is heading in terms of sound, not only with this song, and possibly this album, but also in his career. Calvin started with electronic dance music, as everyone grew to love, but now it seems he’s going elsewhere and it’s interesting, but it’s whether people are buying it.

This song is definitely worth multiple listens to determine whether you like it or not.
